Final Fantasy X’s Junya Nakano releases debut album

Junya Nakano (Final Fantasy X, Musashi: Samurai Legend) has released his first full-length original album. Entitled Phantasm, the album is a fascinating return to form for one of Japan’s most individualistic game composers, with its focus on lush textures and distinctive rhythms. The album captures various nature photographs with ambient electronic pieces. Aside from the titular track, the other tracks featured on the album were previously released as singles between January 2014 and March 2015.

Since leaving Square Enix in 2009, Nakano took an extended break from the industry. However, it now appears that he has returned to working as a full-time composer. In addition to his debut album, he made arrangements for Final Fantasy X HD and contributed to X’Mas Collections and Game Music Prayer II. Nakano has also launched his official website as well as Bandcamp, SoundCloud, and Twitter pages to bring him closer to his fans. Phantasm can be downloaded for 9 USD at Bandcamp now.

One Response to Final Fantasy X’s Junya Nakano releases debut album

  1. Josh Barron says:

It is nice to see composers re-invent themselves by going indie. Uematsu has been writing music for smaller games and Nakano is doing solo work. I will be getting Phantasm for sure.
