Drakengard 2 composers return for Lord of Vermilion Arena

Square Enix have released the official site and first trailer for Lord of Vermilion: Arena. An epic spinoff of the arcade-based card game, Arena is a MOBA title set to be released for PCs.

We can exclusively reveal that Yoshiki Aoi, apparently a duo comprising Yoshiki Matsumoto and Aoi Yuu, are composing the soundtrack for the game. Previously responsible for several Gundam theme songs and the critically-acclaimed soundtrack for Drakengard 2, the pair haven’t been heard from in years.

The first sample of the soundtrack is featured in the trailer above. An epic choral and orchestral theme, featuring hints of Nobuo Uematsu’s Lord of Vermilion theme, it is highly reminiscent of “Symphonic Poem ‘Hope'” from Drakengard 2. Thanks to Don Kotowski for the tip on this one.
