Overview

Little Busters! and its adaptation Little Busters! Ecstasy featured some of the most memorable characters in all of Key’s releases. Rin’s rival in the original game, Sasami became a popular heroine in Ecstasy. Like her companions Kanata and Saya, Key dedicated an image single to her.

Body

The A-side on this single, “Cat, Glass, and the Round Moon”, is a vocal remix of the instrumental character theme of the same name. In contrast to the previously released cover of “Ring! Ring! Ring!”, this melody transfers very well on vocals. It sounds as catchy as ever and seiyuu Tomoe Tamiyasu emphasises its lively character.

She also sings a cover of “Alicemagic”, a theme song from the originally Little Busters! With its distorted vocals, vibrant beats, and transient chiptune elements, this is quite a shift from the trashy rock original. Tamiyasu makes the song her own and, in many ways, does a better job than original vocalist Rita.

The release features a few bonuses, but they’re not worthwhile. There are two tracks featuring Sasami talking, sometimes above instrumental backing. There are also karaoke versions of the two covers.

Summary

While comprised of covers, this single is a pretty good one. Tomoe Tamiyasu was able to make both songs her own, with the help of arrangers, while capturing the character of Sasami. Not a must-have, but cautiously recommended nonetheless.
